Mad River Trail Ride
September 13th 2002

The Mad River area is probably the best off road dirt bike area in the state.  Four of us decided to take a sunny Friday off and enjoy the day. Mike and I have been coming up here for several years.  This was Dan and Kevin's first time up in this area.  Click on the icon to see where this area is relative to the Everett  WA.

Riders ( bike )
Kevin Summers  ( Honda XR400 )
Dan Jamieson ( Honda XR400 )
Mike Jamieson ( Yamaha 400 )
Mark Hastings ( Honda XR500 )

I carried a Gamin GPS to track our path.  It tracks about 85% of the time because of the steep canyons and thick trees.  It would probably work much better if I glued an external antenna to my helmet, but that's going a bit too far.  The total trip was about 82 miles.  The GPS logged about 72 miles because of how twisted the trails are and loosing lock once in a while.  Click the Icon to see a 3D plot of our trip.  Our trip in marked in red. Using Delorme's Topo USA I generated an elevation profile of the trip.  You can see that at times the bike ( and the rider ) get a pretty good workout.

I also brought along a digital camera to get a few shots of the area and the bikers on the trip.  The pictures are arranged in groups for each stop that we made.  Click on the camera Icon to view the pictures.  The pictures here have been reduced to 640x480 to make downloading quicker. I have only two rules for dirt bike riding;
  1.  Have a good time.
  2. Ride the bike out.
